Map of a typical powwow grounds

Here is a map for a typical powwow grounds. (In old time reservation powwows in Canada in the 1960s, the drum and singers would usually be in the center.)

At a big modern 3-day contest powwow like the one at Shakopee, all the flags are in the center.

Outside that area is where the dancing goes on.

Singers and drum groups are arranged around the edge of the dancing area.

Outside the drum area there are bleachers and chairs and places for people to set their own chairs for watching the powwow.

Outside of that circle is an area where people sell stuff at their vendor tables by arrangement with the powwow committee.

And beyond that area is the camping grounds.
